Bad news for Aegia - UT 2007 slips

Midway has just announced that they're not going to get Unreal Tournament 2007 out of the door before Christmas. They're looking at a release in "first quarter 2007" - which will probably be March.

This is bad news in and of itself - everyone and their dogs have been waiting for this game - but it's especially bad news for Aegia. Their PhysX physics card is lacking any decent games - and there were none on the horizon apart from UT 2007.

With the card costing as much as a high end GPU, and both ATI and Nvidia announcing that they're going to do their own physics engines, this pretty much looks like the death knell for Aegia.

No content means no reason to buy Physx, which means no installed base to protect the company when the big guys come to play. Being a first mover in this market is a significant disadvantage unless you have the content to back you up.

As it stands, Aegia look like following 3DFX into obscurity.
