Cheap Guild Wars Gold

Free MMORPGs to try out

|

Just catching up with Fred's MMOExplorer blog, and was reading with interest his post about 2 free MMORPGs that have slipped under the radar.

Sword of the New World is free to download and play up till level 20, which is enough to give you a good feel for the game. It's based in a sort of Spanish colony in the Americas, and you have to battle various monsters as well as corruption within your own ranks.

It is stunning, sort of like a cross between Guild Wars, Diablo and Final Fantasy, with some amazingly detailed baroque architecture thrown in.

I can really recommend downloading it and giving it a spin. The idea of choosing a party of three characters out of your 'family' is pretty unique, and if you're used to playing with henchmen or heroes in Guild Wars it'll feel very familiar.

Archlord is the other free MMORPG, and I can see why it's free. Sadly I've deleted it after half an hour of playing. The graphics are mediocre to say the least, with generic anime characters and poorly animated monsters, as well as detail-less surroundings.

If you look up 'grind' in the Urban Dictionary, you'll find:

A term used in video games, usually mmorpgs.

To grind is to kill monsters or mobs in an area for the singular purpose of gaining xp (experience points) in order to level, as opposed to farming or completing quest objectives within the game.

See also: Archlord

OK, so I'm kidding, but Archlord is all about Teh Grind. I was seriously given a quest to kill 300 jellies for a weapon upgrade. Come on!

I have no hesitation in labelling Archlord an appalling game which has no place taking up space on your hard drive.

Sword of the New World, on the other hand, is well worth your time to download, play, and explore.
