The #theaubergineroom Bot

When you join our channel #theaubergineroom, you may notice an attractive and mysterious stranger in the channel.

That would be me.

However, there's also a strong, dark, silent type called TAR-TomBot.

That isn't me, it's the bot - but like a God creating an inferior being in his image, I have endowed the bot with many of my better qualities.

Trivia

The bot can run Trivia games, to test your knowledge over mundane subjects like Geography and Science, but also the hardcore ones like Star Wars and Hacking.

There are three main commands you'll be needing to play Trivia:

!choose
This will bring up a list of subjects - enter the first word from your chosen subject to select it.

!start (number)
This will start a game within the chosen subject, and will ask as many questions as you told it to for that 'round'.

!score
Mitch's favourite, to be feverishly checked every couple of minutes, this will list the scores of everyone who has answered at least one question. Arranged in order from highest to lowest, the first number is your total score, and the second number is your total score so far this day.

Google

The bot also has the ability to carry out Google searches for you. These can be useful for resolving arguments or cheating at Trivia (try it if you want - I'm way ahead of you there).

The commands you'll need are:

!google (search_terms)
This will do a simple Google and return the highest rated result. There are occasionally problems with calling a pure search this way, so you might also want to try !g (search_terms)

!google define: (term)
This will return the top-rated definition for you.

!google spell: (word)
Assuming your spelling isn't so atrocious as to break the routines of the mighty Google, this should return a number of possible spellings for the mangled word you submitted.

!groups (search_terms)
!images (search_terms)
!print (search_terms)
!video (search_terms)

All the above will search Google Groups, Google Images, Google Print, and Google Video for your search terms. The top rated results will be returned, with URLs.

!fight (words) vs (words)
Expanding on the excellent functionality of http://www.googlefight.com , this will carry out a search on the words on either side of 'vs'. The one which returns the highest number of search results wins! A great way to settle an argument.

There are some more terms you can have some fun with, too:
!youtube (search terms)
!gamespot (search terms)
!gamefaqs (system) in (region)
!blog (search terms)
!ebay (search terms)
!ebayfight (word(s) one) vs (word(s) two)
!wikipedia (search terms)
!locate (ip or hostmask)
!review (gamename) [@ (system)]
!torrent (search terms)
!top (system)
!popular (system)

Other scripts

When TAR-Tom is in the channel, you know the good times, they're a rollin'.
Not only that, but my client makes a number of other excellent scripts available for general use.

!8ball (question)
It's the Magic 8Ball! Ask it your question, and you shall receive your answer.
NOTE: The Magic 8Ball is a hardcore Punctuation Nazi! If your question doesn't end in a question mark, it will ignore you.

!decide (term) (term) (term) ........
I know you're lazy. I know you're indecisive. So to kill two birds with one stone, I've written a script that can make your petty decisions for you!
Just give it a list of terms to choose from, and it will pick one for you.

NOTE: Always remember the Magic 8Ball and the Decision scripts are my personal slaves - sprung forth, fully formed, from my imagination, as it were. Don't try to trick them, and don't try to turn them against me. They'll always side with their creator!

Warning!
The bot is a clever piece of programming, and it's been enhanced with an array of extra functionality which you'll never normally see - unless you do something stupid.
Don't try and attack the bot, trick it, or screw around with it. It can defend itself, all the way from kicking you to a full on K-line.
Bottom line - don't mess with it.

mIRC users, please take extra note: for a number of reasons, I find mIRC an offense against common decency. Not least of which is the incredibly irritating Trout Slap action.
The bot shares my distaste - anyone trout slapping will be instantly kicked.

You have been warned.

Suggestions

There are probably many other areas where the bot could excel. Feel free to post your thoughts in the forums on how the bot should be enhanced further.
