Crowd Control Productions (CCP) who started life as graphics artists before forming CCP and creating EVE. You can find them at http://www.ccpgames.com/ They've often cited Elite as being one of their main inspirations for developing EVE.
They've recently merged with White Wolf, which promises to bring some interesting things to the MMO scene, as well as expanding EVE beyond the computer screen.
